Jones wants to keep county commission seat

Douglas County Commissioner Charles Jones said Wednesday he would run for re-election this year for a third term.

Jones said it wasn’t an easy decision to make but that there were important issues to be decided and he wanted to be involved in those decisions.

“It was kind of a struggle,” Jones, 54, said. “In the end, there are some initiatives that I care very, very deeply about and that haven’t run their course yet.”

Among those issues are what happens to the former Farmland fertilizer plant and rural subdivision regulations.

Jones has lived in Douglas County since 1976 and represents the First District, which covers much of northern, central and some of eastern Lawrence. He is the director of the Kansas University Management Center.

Jones’ position is the only one of the three County Commission seats up for election this year. He has not yet filed.
