Whole-hog supper is later this month

? This year’s Vinland Fair Whole-Hog Sausage and Pancake Supper will be from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at the Vinland Fairgrounds.

Nearly 400 people usually attend the supper, which is a benefit for the Vinland Fair, scheduled for Aug. 10-12.

This year’s supper continues a half-century tradition of volunteers preparing and serving the meal. The sausage is prepared from whole hog carcasses. The exhibition building at the fairgrounds will be set up and other preparations will begin at 9 a.m. that day. All community members are invited to assist.

Vinland Grange members who founded the 99-year-old fair began the supper as a fundraiser. The annual events were once held on Feb. 2, Groundhog Day, to overflow crowds at the Vinland Grange Hall.

The Vinland Fairgrounds are southeast of Lawrence off County Road 460 behind Vinland Elementary School.
