For the first time in 16 years, Mike Wildgen didn’t oversee the Lawrence City Commission’s meeting as city manager.

Instead, on Tuesday night the commission approved Wildgen’s severance agreement without mention, as part of a larger consent agenda that rarely merits discussion.

The agenda passed on a 5-0 vote, securing Wildgen a 3 percent raise, a consulting job through the summer and extended health insurance for his family.

Assistant City Manager David Corliss is serving as interim city manager, and Tuesday he fielded questions and concerns that since 1990 commissioners had directed at Wildgen.

Wildgen re-signed under pressure last week after commissioners took issue with street and sewer planning problems that arose in the last few years.

Mayor Boog Highberger had said previously that there were few issues with his severance package, and he didn’t think people were interested in quibbling over the small details.
