Positive impact

To the editor:

Mike Wildgen’s tenure as city manager is over but the positive impact that he has had over the last 32 years will be long felt in Lawrence. He presided as manager or assistant manager over unparalleled growth and tranquility (remember the uproar when a minority of the commission almost called for Buford Watson’s resignation). It is unfortunate when someone of Mike’s tenure, experience and accomplishments is let go for doing, over his long tenure, what was expected of him.

We came to Lawrence about the same time he did and Mike has contributed in no small manner to Lawrence’s reputation as one of the most livable cities in the country. It should be remembered that management professionals often take the heat when problems arise. Whether you agree with the action taken by the commission or not, Mike deserves all of our thanks for a job well done.

Ray and Kathy Davis,

Lawrence
