Power slowly being restored to Lawrence

March 13, 2006

Thirty-two Westar Energy crews continue to work in Lawrence today to restore power to more than a thousand homes.

1,100 homes in North Lawrence, Southwest Lawrence and parts of the KU campus are still without electricity, but Westar representative Karla Olsen reports KU's power is "pretty much back on."

Olsen expects to have power restored to the vast majority of these homes by tonight, but says a few spots could remain without power into Tuesday.

I would second (third?) those cheers for Westar. We were lucky on the west side of town. Their original estimate for me was noon and the lights came on at 12:20. Given the number of people who were without power and the resulting amount of work they had, I am sufficiently impressed. Nice job guys.

Cheers for Westar , these guys worked all night to replace four broken poles and restore our power , the lights came on a 4:30 this morning , what a pretty sight !

These guys deserve a big THANK YOU !

It's 8:43Pm. The service for my house and my surrounding neighbors was out for about 36 hours. We had no power.

Behind my house is a new subdivision with only a few new houses being built. While my perishable food got warmer in my refrigerator and my house got colder as the outside temperatures dropped, I saw the street lights in the new undeveloped subdivision behind my house glowing.

You're doing a heckuva job, Westy.

here, 22 hours, 8;30am to 6am this morning. kept the fridge closed so didn't lose much.
at the end of the block there was one or more westar trucks for over seven hours, guess it was that bad!

aggreed: cheers to westar and the tree removal!

reeveso: that subdivision you're griping about...like to see you do better...you know these linemen risk their lives with live wires! that subdivion you saw light up might have been necessary to light up to reroute the juice, or turned on for safety or grid balance issues.

a block away, met a young couple with a toddler, just got their electricity on about 4;30pm, they lost everything in their refridgerator. tonight, they ate pizza.
we ate pizza last night.

Still now power at our house is east lawrence proper. Still trees and power lines in the street. Were at a hotel with my kids and my wifi.

Thanks We$tar.
