Judge gives shooter five-year sentence

A Lawrence man received a nearly five-year prison sentence Friday for a February 2005 shooting at a south Lawrence apartment complex.

Douglas County District Court Judge Stephen Six sentenced Keith J. Mann, 45, to 57 months in prison for aggravated battery for the Feb. 20, 2005, shooting in the 1800 block of West 26th Street. The shooting, which happened after a fight in an apartment, left a Lawrence man with a gunshot wound to the ear.

Mann initially was charged with attempted first-degree murder, but charges were lowered as part of a plea agreement.

Mann will serve an 11-month sentence for possession of morphine while he serves the aggravated battery sentence.
