A jury on Tuesday convicted a Lawrence man of having a role in a shooting incident last September between two of his girlfriends.
Jurors convicted Tyrone D. Edwards, 30, of aiding a felon and being a felon in possession of a firearm, Dist. Atty. Charles Branson said.
Prosecutors said Edwards illegally tried to help 19-year-old Nicole A. Livingston avoid arrest after she allegedly shot another woman Sept. 8 in the 600 block of Eldridge Street, and that Edwards had a gun that was illegal for him to possess because of a past felony conviction for statutory rape.
The 18-year-old victim, Jennifer Clarke, testified that she dated Edwards last summer and didn't know he was dating Livingston. She testified that shortly before the shooting, she called Edwards on his cell phone but that Livingston answered, became angry and said she was coming to the home.
Edwards is scheduled to be sentenced April 13 and was ordered into custody after Tuesday's verdict.
Livingston is charged with attempted second-degree murder but is scheduled for a plea hearing later this week.
