Commission considers rental rate increase

Douglas County commissioners are expected to vote tonight on proposed rental rates at the fairgrounds, 21st and Harper streets.

The proposal would double some rental rates and leave others unchanged.

A few months ago, commissioners asked for a rate schedule that would allow the county to collect 50 percent of the fairgrounds’ operating costs over a three-year period.

If approved, the first phase of the fee changes will go into effect this year. They will not, however, affect events that already have been scheduled. Events involving 4-H and recognized youth organizations will remain exempt from the fees.

Before voting, commissioners will give the public a chance to comment on the rate proposal. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. on the second floor of the Douglas County Courthouse, 11th and Massachusetts streets.
