FSHS girls seeded sixth for 6A state

Free State High’s girls basketball team has drawn the sixth seed in this week’s Class 6A state tournament and will face Wichita South at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday.

The pairings for the tournament were announced Sunday. Free State (15-7) and Wichita South (17-5) will be the last of four games that day at White Auditorium in Emporia. Top-seeded Wichita Heights will face Maize, Shawnee Mission South will battle Wichita East and Olathe South takes on Blue Valley North before Free State’s game.

Wichita South faced Heights (21-1) twice this season and lost by just five points both times. In addition, Wichita South swept Wichita East (15-7) in two games this year.

“Everybody I’ve talked to said all three of those (Wichita) teams are pretty darn good,” FSHS coach Bryan Duncan said.

Duncan said the team would leave for Emporia after school on Wednesday.
