From the Lawrence Daily World for March 4, 1906: "A reduction in rates which the Lawrence Electric Co. announced last night is of great importance to us all. The new rates make electricity about as cheap as any light source. Apparently the reduction came because the company regrets the outage problems of the recent past and is trying to make amends. . . . Capt. Henry King, editor of the St. Louis Globe-Democrat and a decorated war veteran, will deliver the Kansas University commencement address on June 6. He long has been a favorite with newspaper people and the St. Louis readers."
