Two hit by Jeep recovering from injuries

Two people struck and injured by an errant Jeep Cherokee are now recuperating, though one remains hospitalized.

On Feb. 24, David Erwin, 21, and Sheila Grammer, 19, were both injured at Brookwood Mobile Home Community at 1908 E. 19th St., just east of the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds.

According to police, John Berry, 16, Lawrence, was driving the Jeep when his foot slipped off the brake and onto the gas pedal. His jeep struck the pair while they were working on a car. No tickets were issued.

Grammer was flown by Life-Star helicopter to the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan. Erwin was taken first to Lawrence Memorial Hospital and then transferred to KU Med.

Dennis McCulloch, a hospital spokesman, said on Thursday that Grammer had been released from the hospital and Erwin was in good condition.
