Federal marshals kill father in shootout
Alaska ? A man wanted on federal drug charges was killed and his 2-year-old son critically injured in a shootout with authorities at a small airport, officials said.
State troopers were investigating the Wednesday shootout in Homer, which killed Jason Karlo Jacob Anderson, 31, of Duluth, Minn. His two children were in a rented car with him, officials said.
The toddler was in critical condition Thursday evening, troopers said. A 6-month-old infant was not injured.
Their mother lives in Alaska, U.S. Marshal Randy Johnson said.
Anderson had gone to the airport to exchange a rental car, troopers said. As he waited in the parking lot, three Homer police officers and a marshal approached the vehicle.
Anderson pulled a gun, prompting the shootout, troopers said.
Anderson had been charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana, and with distributing meth, according to a federal warrant.
