The National Merit Society chapter at Lawrence High School is raising money and collecting clothing for an elementary school in Slidell, La., that was damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

Before the hurricane, students at Cypress Grove School wore uniforms of khaki shorts and red polo shirts.

In an effort to replace the uniforms, National Merit Society students will have a collection booth at the LHS cafeteria from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. today and March 8 and 9. Students may donate money or clothing – khaki shorts or red polo shirts – sizes 6 to 10.

After March 9, the money and clothing will be sent to school officials in Slidell.
