A portion of Douglas County Road 1029 west of Lawrence will be closed beginning today because of reconstruction work, the county Public Works Department has announced.

The road will be closed to through traffic between U.S. Highway 40 and County Road 438, or North 1800 Road. The closure will allow reconstruction of 1029 in the vicinity of a Kansas Turnpike-Interstate 70 underpass. The work is in conjunction with the widening of the turnpike.

The work on 1029 is expected to be completed by July 14. A signed detour following U.S. Highway 40, Kansas Highway 10 bypass and County Road 438 will be provided.
