Crash with oil tank sends teens to hospitals
Two teenagers went to the hospital Thursday morning after their vehicle struck an oil-storage tank near Vinland.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said Michael Biarrapto, 17, was driving east on North 700 Road near East 1800 Road about 9:20 p.m. when his Chevrolet pickup truck left the road and struck a tank belonging to Colt Energy Inc. of Iola.
He was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. A passenger, Jordan Mitchell, 16, Baldwin, was taken by ambulance to University of Kansas Hospital. The impact caused an oil leak that will cost an estimated $10,000 to $15,000 to clean up and repair.
