Prosecutor’s son faces battery charge

The son of Leavenworth County’s prosecutor has been charged with aggravated battery after a fight that sent a 22-year-old Lawrence man to the hospital.

Zachary F. Kohl, 22, made a first appearance last week in Douglas County District Court on a charge related to a fight about 5 a.m. June 11 at Highpointe Apartments, 2001 W. Sixth St.

The victim told police he was beaten and kicked by a group of men and hit on the head with a bottle after he went to the apartment to talk to his ex-girlfriend. Three men were arrested, but charges against one were dropped later.

Kohl’s father, Leavenworth County Atty. Frank Kohl, said he’s still trying to obtain police reports.

“I know enough to know that there’s two sides to every story,” he said.

Jeremy R. Schuyler, 19, Lawrence, also is charged.
