Now that Lawrence city commissioners have proclaimed June as Business Appreciation Month, leaders at the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce have organized several events to say thanks to businesses and their employees.

Chamber representatives and elected officials from Lawrence and Douglas County began serving “Pizza N Thanks” on Wednesday. They also will serve up pizza June 21, 28 and 30. The events will be expected to deliver 662 pizzas to more than 3,288 employees at 28 businesses.

“In 2005, Douglas County businesses invested more than $16.7 million in their local facilities and created 422 jobs,” said Beth Johnson, the chamber’s vice president for economic development.
