Self-help group, art therapy studio to meet

The Recovery and Hope Network Inc. in Douglas County is starting a “Wellness and Recovery Self Help Group” that will meet on Wednesdays.

The confidential, anonymous and free group will be geared toward helping any interested adults who suffer from any type of mental illness. The group will meet from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays at the Independence Inc. building, 2001 Haskell Ave.

Two members of RAHN, who were formerly employed as mental health professionals, will facilitate the group. Group members will work through the textbook “Pathways to Recovery.”

For more information, call director Nancy Odle at 979-3712.

RAHN also is co-sponsoring an art therapy studio with Art & Insight. Artist Libby Schmanke, an Emporia State University instructor, will run the studio. A presentation, “A Public Program,” this week will provide information about mental illness, recovery and the benefits of art therapy. It will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt.
