Giles undergoes surgery to repair torn ligaments in thumb

Kansas University men’s basketball junior center C.J. Giles underwent surgery Wednesday to repair torn ligaments in his right thumb which occurred while working out Tuesday, KU head coach Bill Self announced.

“C.J.’s injury is much like the Wayne’s (Simien) thumb injury against South Carolina his senior season,” Self said. “He will be without contact for six weeks and will be able to do individual workouts starting in two or three weeks. We expect a full recovery.”

Giles, 6-11 from Seattle, started 13 of 33 games last season for KU’s Big 12 co-regular season and league tournament championships team. Giles averaged 6.2 points and 4.8 rebounds as a sophomore.
