Presto station back in business
A central Lawrence gas station that had leaking underground tanks that sparked a house fire in April is back in business — but must demonstrate over the next four months that its monitoring systems are working properly before its permit is permanent.
Kansas Department of Health and Environment officials outlined this morning at a news conference they were in agreement with the Presto corporation.
Presto has hired a full-time employee to monitor inventory — and the company will also provide training on monitoring at all 41 stations in Kansas.
State officials say the surrounding property is safe for neighbors — but monitoring equipment will remain in the area for another year.
The state fined Presto $4,900.
