McLouth teen killed in three-car accident

A McLouth teen was killed after a three-car pileup Wednesday about 5 miles west of Tonganoxie at Kansas Highway 16 and 251st Street.

While driving north on 251st Street, Damien Grammer, 18, pulled his 1996 Chevrolet Geo Metro in front of an eastbound 2002 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Richard Morando, 47, Tonganoxie, on Kansas Highway 16, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report.

Morando’s car struck Grammer’s car in the driver’s side door. Grammer’s car ended up in the ditch north of the road. At the same time, a westbound 2005 Ford Focus driven by Emma Ussery, 63, Ozawkie, struck Morando’s vehicle.

According to the accident report, Grammer wore his seat belt but died after the crash. Grammer’s passenger, Lynnette Berta, 20, Topeka, suffered disabling injuries and was taken to Stormont-Vail HealthCare in Topeka, where she was listed in satisfactory condition Thursday afternoon, a nursing supervisor said.

Morando did not wear his seat belt and suffered a possible injury. He was taken to the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan. Hospital spokesman Bob Hallinan said Friday afternoon that Morando was not listed as a patient.

Ussery and her passenger, Mary Bliss, 47, were also taken to KU Med. Condition reports were unavailable Thursday, Hallinan said.
