Hundreds turn out for first of Dog Days

About 500 people attended the first morning session of Red Dog’s Dog Days on Tuesday at Kansas University’s Memorial Stadium, and about 400 showed up for the evening session.

Don “Red Dog” Gardner and his wife, Beverly Gardner, said they counted about 500 adults (or “hasbeens”) and students who took part in the morning session of the free program. Some of those returned for a second session Tuesday evening.

The program continues through June at 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the stadium and at 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. on Saturdays at the Lied Center parking lot.

The July schedule will be 6 a.m., noon and 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. Saturdays at the Lied Center parking lot.

The workouts are canceled if there is lightning. But if there is only rain, they will be under the stadium bleachers or in the Kansas Union parking garage.
