GOP party

To the editor:

I was quite taken aback by Tim Shallenburger’s assessment of “former Republicans” Mark Parkinson and Paul Morrison (Journal-World, June 1). “In essence, they ran as Republicans not because of sincerely held beliefs, but because that was the only road to money and political power in Kansas.”

But then it struck me how clearly that explains the current Republican Party, not just in Kansas but in places like California (Cunningham), Texas (DeLay), Ohio (Ney) and our nation’s capital (Bush, Cheney fundraisers, Abramoff anyone?).

And here I thought the Republican Party was about protecting me from forced abortions and married queers living next door.
