Air tours of Lawrence raise funds for charities

Pilots and passengers raised about $7,200 for charity Saturday by selling air tours of Lawrence at Lawrence Municipal Airport.

The fundraising project, called Flights for Charity, sold aerial tours of the city for $35, with the proceeds being split between Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City and the Children’s Wish Foundation. The flights lasted about 25 minutes.

Lawrence resident Christina Moore, 15, helped organize the project to raise money for the two organizations that helped her during a battle with bone cancer.

Local pilots donated their time and airplanes, and the Lawrence Airport Advisory Board helped organize the event. Organizers reported giving about 150 tours.
