FSHS has 4 all-staters

Four Free State High and one Lawrence High baseball player have been named Class 6A first-team all-staters by the Kansas Association of Baseball Coaches.

Shortstop Robby Price, pitcher Travis Blankenship, outfielder Brett Lisher and pitcher-outfielder Scott Heitshusen were tapped from the 6A state champion Firebirds by state 6A coaches.

Michael Sickinger, who filled the designated hitter slot, was Lawrence High’s lone representative.

Free State second baseman Travis Ice made the second team, as did Lawrence High outfielder Brian Heere.

Price also heads the All-Sunflower League list. The senior headed to Kansas University on a baseball scholarship was named the league’s player of the year.

Other Firebirds chosen All-Sunflower first-teamers by league coaches were Ice, Lisher, Blankenship, Heitshusen and designated hitter Ben Wilson. Mike Hill was named coach of the year.

Sickinger also made the all-league first team, as did Lions’ first baseman John Novotny. Named to the All-Sunflower second team were Free State first baseman Lorenzo Ricketts and Lawrence High shortstop Marc Albers and Heere.
