Molestation case scheduled for October

A judge ruled Wednesday that there was enough evidence to try a 27-year-old Douglas County man for molesting a 6-year-old boy in 2002.

The boy’s mother testified during a preliminary hearing Wednesday that she walked in on the man as he appeared to be performing a sexual act on the boy in June 2002.

At the time, the man was staying at the rural Douglas County home temporarily because he is a relative of the mother’s then-boyfriend.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Lt. Doug Woods testified the man confessed to “questionable acts” involving the boy. Judge Michael Malone scheduled the man’s trial for Oct. 2.

The case was on hold for two years in part because the suspect was serving overseas in the U.S. military.
