Charges dropped against prosecutor’s son
Douglas County Dist. Atty. Charles Branson’s office has dropped charges against the son of Leavenworth County’s prosecutor, who was arrested after a fight June 11 that sent a 22-year-old Lawrence man to the hospital.
Charges were dropped Wednesday against Zachary F. Kohl, son of Leavenworth County Atty. Frank Kohl, and against a co-defendant, Jeremy R. Schuyler.
Branson said the injured man can’t identify which person caused his injuries and that his office is pursuing additional witnesses.
Both men were arrested after a fight about 5 a.m. June 11 at Highpointe Apartments, 2001 W. Sixth St.
The victim told police he was beaten and kicked by a group of men and hit on the head with a bottle after he went to the apartment to talk to his ex-girlfriend.
A third person was arrested, but a judge found in June that there was not probable cause to charge him.
