Annual moving time begins this weekend

Good luck getting movers, a U-Haul or even a storage space. The annual move-in, move-out begins this weekend as Kansas University students start to get situated for the upcoming school year.

Demand by students for storage space caused one business to move locations and add storage units. Rose Wagner, office manager at Professional Moving and Storage, said students have been coming in all week looking for units.

“Their leases expire at the end of July and don’t start again until Aug. 5, so a lot of the time the kids are frantically trying to find where to put their stuff,” Wagner said.

And Wagner said the company’s moving crews are booked solid this weekend. Because of all the moving, the city of Lawrence will not be picking up yard trimmings on Monday. Instead, sanitation workers will collect grass and leaves, if set out with regular household trash. Separate city yard trimmings collections will resume Aug. 7.
