County Commission approves road work

Douglas County commissioners on Monday authorized seeking bids for various road improvement projects.

Bids will be taken for the “hot-in-place recycling” repair of 2.2 miles of County Road 438 at the curved intersection with County Road 1029 west of Lawrence. The estimated project cost is $195,000.

Bids also might be sought for similar work on less than a mile of Noria Road from Kansas Highway 10 north to the railroad tracks.

Some of that area is within Lawrence city limits, and negotiations are under way with the city about sharing the cost, which is $95,000.

Bids also will be sought for improvements to East 1300 Road between North 100 and North 150 roads near the Franklin County line, in anticipation of upcoming U.S. Highway 59 improvements.

On another matter, commissioners approved a resolution continuing the 75-cent telephone user tax for the enhanced 911 emergency telephone service in the county until Dec. 31, 2007.
