Alvamar names general manager

Dick Stuntz is the new general manager for Alvamar Inc.

Stuntz, longtime superintendent for both of Alvamar’s golf courses in Lawrence and the company’s vice president for golf facilities, was named to the new post on an interim basis by Alvamar’s board of directors.

Two board members also were elected to corporate offices: Bob McKinney is interim chairman and Mike Easterday is interim secretary/treasurer.

“We’re just being very cautious,” McKinney said Monday. “We want to do it on an interim basis and test some things.”

Stuntz now oversees all managers at Alvamar. The company owns the two courses, plus runs a country club – with a clubhouse – and a pro shop. Alvamar also owns undeveloped property that is offered for sale.

Alvamar shareholders elected a new board of directors during a special meeting Thursday. Beverly Smith Billings – who had been Alvamar president since the 2003 death of her husband, Alvamar founder Bob Billings – remains on the board but no longer oversees the company’s operations.
