Cold front moving in tonight, bringing chance for thunderstorms
Shopping for some cool weather? You won’t find it this afternoon at the annual Downtown Lawrence Sidewalk Sale.
“It’s a good idea to get out and enjoy it early, because it’s going to be a hot afternoon,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

Today’s afternoon high will climb to 105 degrees, with the heat index climbing to around 115 degrees, Schack said.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory through 7 p.m. for Douglas County, she said.
“If you’re heading out this morning, make sure you take some water and some sunscreen,” Schack said.
At 6:45 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 85 degrees, the humidity was 55 percent and winds were out of the southwest at 10 mph.
The average low temperature for this date is 70 degrees. The record low was 57 degrees, set in 1971.
The average high temperature for this date is 91 degrees. The record high was 106 degrees, set in 1974.
“We’re not going to be very far from that record high,” Schack said.
Relief from the heat arrives tonight, when a cold front moves in, bringing a chance for rain tonight and a better chance on Friday, Schack said.
Friday’s morning low temperature will be 76 degrees. Friday’s high will be 85 degrees, with a chance of scattered storms, Schack said.
Saturday’s morning low will start out at 62 degrees, climbing to only 86 degrees, with partly cloudy skies, she said.
