Theater offering

To the editor:

Monday’s review of “And Then There Were None,” produced by Kansas Mystery Theatre at Kansas University was a long time coming – especially considering the short run of the summer theater shows. The critique was well thought out and written. What a shame that it wasn’t printed closer to the show’s opening.

“Something’s Afoot'” the musical spoof running in repertory with “And Then There Were None” opened Friday to joyous applause from the audience, but without a review in the paper.

Kansas Mystery Theatre was created to give the audience and the actors a unique experience, to see not only one, but two shows in repertory, with the same group of actors working on two very stylistically different shows, one a tense mystery, the other a frolicking mystery-musical farce. The actors, who are also singers and dancers (talk about talent!) have broken their backs to bring to Lawrence this unique way of producing summer theater.

I hope that in the future the editors of the Journal-World understand that wanting a review is not about selling tickets. The University Theatre truly wants and needs its performers to have an audience so they can share their talents and learn from the experience. There is still some time to relish this unique opportunity in the arts; the shows run through Sunday in repertory.
