Temperature to reach 100 degrees

Get ready for another hot, steamy day. The temperature combined with high humidity will make it feel as hot as 110 degrees, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

The hottest part of the day will be just after 4 p.m., when the temperature hits 100 degrees, Schack said. The average high temperature for this date is 91 degrees. The record high was 113 degrees, set in 1936.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory through 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The weather service recommends:

¢ Drinking plenty of non-alcoholic fluids.

¢ Wearing lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing and a hat to shield yourself from the sun.

¢ Using a sunscreen to prevent possible sunburn.

At 7:15 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 77 degrees, the humidity was 74 percent and winds were out of the north at 3 mph. The heat index is 79 degrees.

This morning’s low was 77 degrees. The average low temperature for this date is 70 degrees. The record low was 55 degrees, set in 1911.

Overnight, temperatures will fall off to 75 degrees by early Wednesday morning. Wednesday afternoon’s high will be 102 degrees, Schack said.

Thursday’s morning low will drop to 78 degrees, she said. Thursday’s high will reach 101, she said.

“It looks like the hot weather will come to an end just in time for the weekend,” she said.

Friday’s high will climb to 94, while Saturday’s high will be only 89 degrees and Sunday’s high will be 90, she said.
