Special city meeting to discuss land purchase
City commissioners plan a special meeting at 6:15 p.m. Monday so they can have a closed-door executive session with Douglas County commissioners to discuss a possible real estate acquisition.
Commissioners weren’t commenting on the exact reasons for the executive session, but city and county commissioners have been in discussions about the possible purchase of the former Farmland Industries site east of Lawrence. The city also is in the process of making a major land purchase for a new sewer treatment plant south of the Wakarusa River.
The meeting will be at Fire Station No. 5, 1911 Stewart Ave. City commissioners already had scheduled a study session to discuss the city budget for 7 p.m. that day at the fire station.
