Hot and humid through weekend

Slight chance for thunderstorms

Crank up the air conditioner.

“It looks like another hot one as temperatures climb right back into the 90s,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

Today’s high is expected to hit 93, with partly cloudy skies and southeast winds 5 to 10 mph, she said.

“It will feel very sticky this afternoon,” she said.

Early this morning, a thunderstorm skirted across Lawrence, but most of the rain fell in the northern part of the city, Schack said.

The official amount recorded at the airport was 0.27 of an inch, she said.

“It looks like most of us will keep it dry for the rest of the day,” she said.

However, there’s a slight chance for thunderstorms tonight, she said. The Storm Prediction Center has Lawrence in a slight risk area for severe weather, she said.

“We might get clipped by a thunderstorm early tomorrow morning,” she said.

At 7:15 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 75 degrees, the humidity was 90 percent and winds were calm.

This morning’s low was 72 degrees. The average low temperature for this date is 70 degrees. The record low was 54 degrees, set in 1940.

The average high temperature for this date is 90 degrees. The record high was 111 degrees, set in 1954.

Friday’s morning low will be 74 degrees, she said.

Friday’s afternoon high will climb to 94 degrees, with lots of sunshine and the heat index climbing up past 100 degrees, she said.

“It will be hot through the weekend and into early next week,” she said.

Saturday’s morning low will be 74 degrees, with the high reaching 98 degrees, she said.

“That heat index will be 105, if not 110, all weekend long,” she said.
