DNA evidence supports allegations against Granada shooter

Police say DNA evidence implicates a man who's charged in the deadly shooting earlier this year outside a downtown night club.
DNA swabs taken from the handgun believed to have been used in the Feb. 5 shooting matched the DNA swabs taken from the mouth of suspect Rashawn T. Anderson after his arrest, Lawrence Police Detective Zach Thomas testified this afternoon during Anderson's preliminary hearing.
Anderson is charged with shooting and killing Robert E. Williams, 46, after an argument following a hip-hop show at the Granada, 1020 Mass. Today's hearing was the first time details have emerged of the investigation that led to Anderson's arrest.
"The identity of the alleged shooter is going to be a very contested issue in this case," Defense Attorney Mark Manna said.
A key piece of evidence in the case is a video shot outside the Granada minutes before the shooting by a contractor for Upset Records, the Denver-based record label that produced the show. In the video, Williams can be seen wearing a long black coat and bowler-style hat as he argues loudly with a group of men and his wife, LaTonia Coleman, tries to pull him away from the dispute.
Many of the people who had been on the sidewalk around that time didn't come forward to police after Williams' death. Detectives obtained the video from the record label and worked with Topeka police to identify the people who were pictured in it, Lawrence Police Det. Lance Flachsbarth testified.
A man who appears to be Anderson can be seen in the background in the video as Williams argues with another man. But the actual shooting wasn't on the video shown in court today.

Interesting, too bad the Granada doesnt have private security camera pointed out on the street where large numbers of their patrons go to smoke (because of some silly city wide ban we never got to vote on). We wouidn't have to rely on other peoples video.
“But the actual shooting wasn't on the video shown in court today.”
Hmmm, is this meant to imply that the DA has video showing the actual shooting, but chose not to put it in evidence during the prelim?

The last time I was on that block, the Granada was struggling to keep the facade of their building in one piece.

observer,
nah these people arent scum. They are people just like you and me. Many enjoy going out and listening to the music they enjoy. Admit that you are ignorant of the culture that these people are from. It is a different life for those that live in urban settings surrounded by drugs and gang violence. Hip Hop isnt evil nor the people that listen to it. I have went to both places and I do not fear for my life when I go because I understand my environment. It is as though society hates them from birth and when your reminded constantly that others are better than you because of superficial things such as race, color or wealth then I believe anger and self-esteem issues are inherently imposed. I also attend death metal shows and love checking out The Red Lion on fridays for the celtic band. Each one offers different tastes of unique backgrounds. Before you call another group of people scum I would advise you watch this short experiment done on presumptions and stereotypes.

Offtotheright…we are indeed humans that bleed red just as I stated above. No they are not like you, in fact no one is like you because what you are comparing is personality and character traits. “That” culture is not what gets you shot by the way. It's the idiots that do not understand gun safety or could care less about such things. This is not prone to Hip Hop either.
My statement has to do with the type of thinking that you and observer are clearly using. Stereotyping and complete prejudice do not belong in our society today but obviously you come from a very closed minded background where you feel it is okay, if not a right to pre-judge a person based solely on the actions of others within their class or social settings.
It is your right to pack heat where and whenever you want in the state of Kansas. I however feel it unnecessary to do so because of personal choice and to be honest there is no reason for me to carry a weapon except to the firing range or while im hunting for meat to cure.
Carry on and please do not take these comments in anger because that is not what my intentions are. It is merely my opinion, which can never be fairly construed to an overall understanding of all situations. I just hope this attitude towards “That” culture within these comment sections stay in the minority and away from the unique Lawrence community.

Correction: it is your right NOW to pack heat in the state of Kansas, if you're talking about concealed carry. THEN, however, it wasn't.
And there are still places where guns won't be allowed.

I'm really beginning to wonder now about all those DNA tests, though. You never know. Did anyone else see that show on Discovery Health about chimeras?
Even though it would be more expense, seems to me now that they should be taking DNA samples from suspects from all these sources: hair, blood, saliva, skin, and tissue samples from internal organs.
Otherwise, how can they be sure the suspect isn't a chimera?
