City auctions fire truck online
Need a bright green fire truck?
A retired Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical fire truck is up for auction online.
There’s one problem – it smokes a little.
As of Sunday afternoon, the bid was up to $725 for the 1983 Ford T-8000, which has 56,588 miles on its odometer. The auction ends Thursday morning.
“This is a good-looking older fire truck,” the description says on the Web site. “It has new tires and nice green paint. It does start and run, but probably has a cracked head or head gasket.”
The fire truck, which emits white smoke when it runs, is one of six used vehicles the city is selling on the online government surplus auction site at www.govdeals.com.
The fire truck can be seen at 1941 Haskell Ave. between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. weekdays.
The other vehicles – two cars, two pickups and a three-wheeled Cushman vehicle – can be seen between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the city’s central maintenance garage, 11th Street and Haskell Avenue.
