New state health board to hold public meetings

? The state’s new health policy board will hold three public meetings this month to get input on the direction of the Kansas health system.

The town hall-style meetings of the Kansas Health Policy Authority Board will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Kansas City on July 11, the Eugene Hughes Metropolitan Complex in Wichita on July 13 and the American Legion in Hays on July 27. All meetings are scheduled from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

“We want to encourage members of the public and all health stakeholders to join us for the public meetings,” Marcia Nielsen, interim executive director of the board, said. “Your perspective is vitally important to the work of the Health Policy Authority, and we look forward to hearing your ideas, suggestions, and concerns on ways to improve the health of Kansans,” she said.

Those wanting to testify should register by e-mailing LukeThompson@da.state.ks.us or calling 785-296-7762. If time allows, presenters may also register at the meetings.

The board on July 1 assumed operation of the state Medicaid program and the state employee health benefits program and will promote public health strategies.
