Gun law benefit

To the editor:

This is for Bob Schumm and others of the same mindset (lack of information) about the multiple merits of a right-to-carry law.

Go to the library or, better yet, buy a book titled “More Guns, Less Crime” by John Lott, Ph.D. I believe the book came out about five years ago and, at that time, he documented the remarkable reduction in crime in those states which had a right-to-carry law. The statistically demonstrable FACTS will, well, astonish those who fear the new Kansas law.

Why do more guns, less crime achieve the remarkable results Dr. Lott sets forth? Simple: Those who would set out to harm those who are not armed have no fear of retaliation and injury by the undefended.

My only concern with the present law is that it applies only to people of the age of 21 or over. Just consider “Jane Doe” who has just graduated high school and seeks employment with, say, a medical facility or a manufacturer, which employs three shifts of workers. Jane, as a beginner, qualifies for the third shift. As she goes to the parking lot after work she is a natural prey for those who would do her harm. I just hope that future legislation will cure this defect.
