Injury accidents

¢ Three people were taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital early Sunday after an accident on U.S. Highway 59, and one person involved refused treatment. The driver, a 20-year-old St. Joseph, Mo., man, was traveling with three passengers, two from Wathena and one from Troy, when the car dipped into the left shoulder. The driver swerved back onto the road, which caused the car to roll several times. One person was ejected from the vehicle.

Conditions for those taken to the hospital were not released Sunday.

The accident occurred at 4:30 a.m. about one mile north of the Franklin County line.

¢ A 46-year-old Lenexa man was transported by LifeStar helicopter to the University of Kansas Hospital about 8 p.m. Sunday. He was riding alone on a motorcycle on U.S. Highway 24-40 near its junction with Kansas Highway 32 when he apparently ran off the road and struck a road sign. The motorcycle flipped several times before coming to rest in a field next to the road. He was not wearing a helmet. The man’s condition had not been released late Sunday.

¢ A fire Saturday at the Tonganoxie Nursing Center has caused the center to close for about a week. Residents there have been moved to the Leavenworth County Infirmary until rooms in the nursing home are repaired and cleaned. The fire, which occurred at 2 p.m. Saturday, started in a dryer in the linen room and spread to two other nonpatient rooms. No one was injured, but about 90 residents were evacuated.
