Sentence imposed in drug shooting
A Lawrence woman was sentenced to seven years in prison Monday for her role in the April 2004 attempted killing of a drug informant.
Chaconie Leanna “CC” Edwards previously pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Kan., to one count of discharging a firearm to further an act of violence.
Edwards admitted to being involved in the April 29, 2004, shooting of Tania Atkins, of Lawrence, who had helped build a cocaine dealing case against a Lawrence man. Atkins was shot in the legs after another driver struck her minivan, but she was able to drive away and flag down police when the shooter’s gun jammed.
Prosecutors alleged Edwards was the getaway driver for the shooter, later identified as Kyle A. Crayton of Kansas City, Kan.
She was one of five people convicted of taking part in the plot. The other four await sentencing.
