Junction City ? Free State High wrestlers Marc Somers and Jesse Hardy continued their strong seasons Saturday, winning individual titles at the one-day Junction City Invitational.

Somers won the 130-pound championship and improved to 22-1 overall, while Hardy claimed the crown at 189, improving to 22-2.

Alex Hardman (third, 119), K.J. Siebert (second, 152) and Josh Fowler (fourth, 160) also placed for the Firebirds.

“We brought nine kids up, and we placed five of them,” Free State coach Darrell Andrew said. “The kids wrestled real well in this format, and we got some wins that are going to help us out in seeding down the road.”

Because of a computer malfunction, final team results were not available.

Lions win in Atchison

Atchison – Blake Greenfield and Brendan Halpin each won individual championships Saturday as the Lawrence High wrestling squad secured the team title at the 12-team Atchison Tournament.

Greenfield finished 3-0 at 119 pounds, while Halpin was also 3-0 at 152.
