Homeless plan
To the editor:
Let’s use all the schools that were closed down to house the homeless, being creative and resourceful, cutting down increased taxes for the elderly on property and letting more funding go for children’s education. I think education for the children and health care issues for the seniors should come first anyway.
Hilda Enoch, Mary Siegrist, and the volunteers from the National Homeless Coalition can be in charge of these homes. The Salvation Army and Goodwill can donate bedding, linens and coats.
Lawrencians can continue to donate food to the LINK and The Salvation Army programs.
Then, if the others can find fault with Lawrence in this homeless matter, they can stay in Topeka or Kansas City. Why come here if it is so bad?
Habitat volunteers can modify the schools if needed and get the homeless to help them if they can. Use what you have!
