$35,000 grant benefits early childhood program

The Lawrence Schools Foundation recently was awarded a $35,000 grant for the benefit of the early childhood education program at the East Heights Early Childhood and Family Center.

The award came from the Ethel and Raymond Rice Foundation, which has supported the early childhood program for 10 years and contributed $329,000.

The readiness program serves at-risk 4-year-olds by preparing them to enter kindergarten ready to learn. The program provides formal early education to children who would not otherwise have the opportunity to attend preschool. In addition, parents work to enhance their parenting and teaching skills through joint classroom activities as part of the program.
