The Van Go Mobile Arts organization wants funds to expand their services, and this week a Tulsa-based foundation served them a challenge: Make money, and you'll get money.
The J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation of Tulsa told Van Go that if $325,000 is raised by this time next year, the foundation will donate an additional $170,000 toward the renovation of the organization's workspace at 715 N.J.
"We are confident the community will help us meet this challenge," said Lynne Green, Van Go executive director.
The remodeled work space will offer new art programs for high-risk kids, a full-time retail gallery space and space for meetings and other programs, according to the organization.
Van Go has experience in challenge grants before. Last year, the organization raised almost $500,000 in donations to receive $247,000 in tax credits from the Kansas Department of Commerce.

This is one excellent organization. This upgrade will benefit Lawrence in more ways than one. The community's children will definitely benefit as will the Old East Lawrence
neighborhood. They are good neighbors.
Now if only the railroad would step up and do its' part for the neighborhood.
