Handgun seized near nightclubs

Lawrence Police seized a stolen handgun during the weekend from a vehicle in a downtown parking lot used by club-goers. It was the third time in two weeks officers have recovered a gun while patrolling the parking lot of Borders, 700 N.H.

Officers spotted the gun shortly after 2:30 a.m. Sunday while looking into a car in the parking lot. They eventually made contact with a 25-year-old Kansas City, Mo., man who approached the car. After identifying him they learned he was a convicted felon legally barred from having a gun, police said.

After arresting him, officers found he had suspected marijuana, crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia, according to a report. Police also found the gun listed as stolen.

The man, identified as Anthony Lamar West, was booked into the Douglas County Jail and ordered to appear in court Thursday.

The previous Saturday night, police seized two guns from the same parking lot. The lot is across the street from Last Call, 729 N.H., and down the street from the Bottleneck, 737 N.H.
