Another Jayhawk sculpture vandalized

Another Jayhawk sculpture has fallen victim to vandals.

Jayhawk Bookstore, 1420 Crescent Rd., this morning reported its Bit o’Hawk sculpture was torn from its base and left lying near its perch in front of the store, according to Lawrence police.

Bookstore staff are reviewing security camera tapes in hopes of catching the culprits, police said.

Bit o’Hawk, a mosaic sculpture, was one of many fiberglass Jayhawk sculptures created for the 2003 “Jayhawks on Parade.”

Another one of the sculptures, Classic Jayhawk, which had been on display in front of the Kansas Union for two years, was removed last month after it was vandalized. A sturdier sculpture, costing about $2,000, will fill its place.
