Review disputed

To the editor:

Jon Niccum’s negative review of “Brokeback Mountain” was as incomprehensible to me as was his incomprehension of the movie’s last line, which was, by the way, “Jack, I swear.”

This brilliant movie, an incredible adaptation of Annie Proulx’s award-winning short story, and called “dull and overrated” by your reviewer, has won both the New York and Los Angeles Film Critics awards for best picture, as well as garnering seven Golden Globe nominations (the most of any film this year). My guess is it will also receive the highest number of Academy Award nominations this year.

After recently graduating from UCLA film school and receiving a Master of Fine Arts in screenwriting, I’ve moved back home to Kansas to make films I can only dream of as being half as great as Ang Lee’s “Brokeback Mountain.” Alas, the only things I find “dull and overrated” are Mr. Niccum’s film analysis skills.
