War or no war?

To the editor:

President Bush wants to hand over the operation of six major seaports to Dubai Ports World, an extension of the United Arab Emirates. Since 9-11, the Bush administration has continually beat its war drum of fear at the American people, linking terror to Muslim extremists from the United Arab Emirates and other Muslim countries in his war against terrorism. And now this?

Using tactics of fear, Bush extorted billions of dollars from Congress for his invasion efforts in Iraq, using misleading statements to justify this war. Two years ago and 1,200 kids still alive, Bush declared war was over. His message to the American people then: “Trust us,” we know what we are doing.

Now Bush is blackmailing Congress members with his threat of veto if they dare object to his giving our ports over to the very people we are waging war against! Either we are at war, or we are not! If we are, then we do not give away port authority. If we are not, then bring our military home. You cannot have it both ways! Those days of trusting Bush and his administration are so over!

If our Kansas congressional representatives are political cowards and lack the guts, courage or bravery to stand up to this blatant abuse of power as the president attempts to reward his “friends” of the United Arab Emirates, then it is time to elect someone with the courage to represent the people, not special interests, for a change.
