Burglaries and thefts reported

¢ Lawrence Police are investigating a series of about 10 automobile burglaries that happened between Wednesday night and Thursday morning in the 2500 block of West 31st Street and the 3300 block of South Iowa Street.

Condition updates

¢ Shadoe Barton, 18, Lawrence, remains in critical condition at the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., said hospital spokesman Bob Hallinan. Barton was the driver in an accident Thursday on U.S. Highway 24-40 northeast of Lawrence in Leavenworth County.

¢ A condition report on James Helyar, 74, graphics curator at the Spencer Research Library, was still unavailable Friday, Hallinan said. Helyar was injured Thursday morning when he was walking and struck by a vehicle driven by a 25-year-old KU staff member, who said the sun was in his eyes.

Injury accident

¢ Frank Jordan, 46, De Soto, suffered nonlife-threatening injuries Thursday night in a four-wheeler accident southeast of De Soto at 95th Street and Waverly Road, said Master Deputy Tom Erickson, a sheriff’s department spokesman.

Jordan was transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center. A hospital spokeswoman said Friday that Jordan was no longer a patient.

¢ A Lawrence woman was injured at 7 p.m. Friday on the Kansas Turnpike south of Topeka when the driver of her car swerved the car to avoid an animal, causing it to then hit a barrier wall.

Catherine Green, 22, was transported to Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, according to a Kansas Turnpike Authority report. A hospital official said she was treated and released. The driver, Matthew Namee, 20, Lawrence, was not injured.
